Hi, we're new to NZ but in the UK we used to go to loads of Hot Rod an American Car shows. In fact we used to have a market stall and we used to trade at then, now we're in NZ we are looking for weekend shows that we can camp at and stuff. By the look of it the Beach Hop takes over the whole of Whangamata rather than just a sports field or alike, is that correct? If so where is the centre of the show and what are the nearest campsites to stay at? Or have I got it wrong and it is in a field and therefore camping is actually on-site? Also, I won't be showing a car unfortunately but I understand entry is free, how does that work? Do I need to apply for tickets? Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt!
Welcome to NZ. You are correct, the Beach Hop certainly takes over the whole of Whangamata during the festival - the place is buzzing. We do lots of cruising around the streets and local beaches. The main show day is Saturday 28th of April when we close off the town centre and then fill it up with a parade of cars & bikes that lasts over 1 1/2 hours.
Accommodation - all camp sites are well and truly sold out in Whangamata - but you can camp at Opoutere Beach which is about 15 mins from town. Check our website for details and other options such as renting a holiday house....
Feel free to let us know of we can help out any further...
See ya at the Hop!
