I think holding the Beach Hop at the same time as the rotor nats is an excellent ideas - very few people are genuinely interested in both events, and those that are know where their alegences lie. Plus it would be much nicer to have the event in January when the weather is still nice. No way, The lowrider scene is growing bigger and bigger. The lowrider nationals are held alongside the 4&rotos and for the last 2 years lowriders have showed up at beach hop with no complaints. If theyre werent lowriders at beach hop i wouldnt have gone to the trouble of getting there and i know many people who feel the same

With all due respect to Geek, its a 50s and 60s Rock 'n Roll event - with cars (50's & 60's cars) - not a car event.
I don't remember seeing low-riders on Happy Days (the TV program)
We ( I ) would realy like to just have the Rock 'n Roll thing back - that way the idiots would get board and go away! thats just IMHO
I LOVE seeing the Low Riders - and yes they are just the coolest guys cruizing around showing some neat metal - but it is the Beach Hop - not a car event!
Form the beach hop web site...
" was established to coincide with the local Rock’n’Roll Club’s (Coastal Rockers) birthday hop

Yeah there werent any lowriders on Happy Days, but I definetly remember them on CHiPS!! yeah that program rocked!!! bring on the reruns... I want to be just like Erik Estrada when I grow up!! hahaha Anyway Geek, somewhere on this forum the Nodfather has stated the event is timed to coincide with the local Rock'n'Roll clubs anniversary which is the last weekend of April, so don't worry, Lowriders will still be there. Thinking of CHiPS, maybe we could have a 70's hot-rod event somewhere else, everyone in flares and headbands with acres of wind battered hair, cars with real funky names, miles of burgundy velour, chunky metalflake (with real swarfs of aluminiuim in it.. hehe) and more chrome than you could shake several sticks at!! Yeah man.. ;D ;D

A BIT OF NEWS ABOUT BH 06 The Police and Council are pushing for a Liquor Ban town wide from 9am Friday to 9am Monday - the same as New Year etc. And we support this. If you break it then you will be arrested and fined - no exception. The headlines on the front page of the local paper yesterday "EXPECT LIQOUR BAN AT NEXT YEARS BEACH HOP". We want to keep the event laid back, without to many rules, but we also need to have more control. But believe me it will be as simple and painless as possible. The Beach Hop is all about the 50's and 60's and we want the cars to reflect that. We tried pre-70 Non American this year - but they still came. So we need to strictly police this area. We are looking at total pre-rego for ALL cars. It will be pre-72 only. USA made cars made after 72 can register but they must belong to a club or group that is registered with us. For example - an 87 Cadillac can register IF they belong to a group such as Old Skool, Rydes - only if that group is registered with us. So it doesn't have to be an NZHRA affiliated club or anything - just a club or group who register with the Beach Hop. That means if anyone plays up, or the police give us the details, then that entire group or club will be banned from future events. Peer pressure is a great thing in the Hot Rod community....... All registration will be online from our website and we will make it so you'll be able to pay via credit card. We are working very hard with the police to save the night cruise. It may be limited to 300 cars with the entrant able to select the night cruise option at registration - there may be an additional fee to do the night cruise. There will also be a 10pm curfew for the night cruise - remember the BH isn't just a car show - it is a Rock'n'Roll Festival. We will probably keep the Ultimate Passes - sure we had a few grizzles but that can be fixed. We changed the name from VIP to Ultimate Pass as we found people getting elitist. The idea is to be able to give them all their merchandise a bit cheaper than buying it one by one. And we had the limited edition T Shirts plus the night time venue. The most contentious issue was those that wanted to power park. These are all fixable and we will do that for next year. We are looking at completely splitting the cars into 2 groups for the start of the parade 50% of the cars at a reserve one end of town and the other 50% at the other end. For e.g cars 1-500 in one area and 501-1000 in another area. The parade is the drive into the Town Centre - so in effect there will be 2 separate parades that meet in the middle...... The police want us to get the cars into the Town Centre and parked up as quickly as possible - that is our goal. Stay tuned - there is lots more to come! Noddy

I think things are definately heading in the right direction and I agree totally with the liquor ban, but why the 10pm curfew on the night cruise? One of the coolest things about the Hop is staying up until the wee hours watching the cars cruise. Aside from that minor grizzle I think you guys are onto it and I can't wait to see how things turn out!

Yep, I agee with Doms, 10pm is too early, I think this year people went and put their cars away around 10pm so they could go into town drinking-with a liquor ban there would be no drinking so why not stay out in ya car cruizin' till late? Also see the Govt is debating the drinking age to go up again, get in touch with your local MP's and show them your support for this, and perhaps we will see less drunken 16-19yr olds wrecking events like this. Roll on 2006 can't wait to debut my 1960's style Hotrod (Model A, yellow, whitewalls, fiesta caps, limefire headers 32 grille blah blah).

Please understand that it is the Police and Council who determine the hours of the Night Cruise. There was talk of stopping it all together. As the posters say - "Beach Hop Rock'n'Roll Festival" - it isn't just a car show.....
We may be able to convince the powers that be that if there are no dramas up to 10pm then it goes to 11pm so the onus is on the participants AND public to behave.
Now Hotrod Boy - about this Model A - send us some photos! info@beachhop.co.nz
Cheers

Hey Noddy, Love the hall of shame, pity some of these companys dont have the nouse to support the biggest rock festival in New Zealand. How about a hall of fame also, So we know who to deal with and can thank them for the support.

Congratulations and thanks to Noddy and all his team for a great weekend. A massive improvement over last year and thoroughly enjoyed the saturday night cruise. pity about the weather but i don't think it dampened too many spirits by the amount of cars and a great atmosphere about the crowd. Will be back next year for more of the same. Once again .........CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT WEEKEND. Rob & Jan...aka Kermit
